2025 Knack Partner Awards: Celebrating Fordham’s Innovation After Hours and HCC Nursing’s First-Time Impact

At Knack, we believe peer tutoring should be flexible, inclusive, and built for the realities of today’s students. That’s why we’re proud to celebrate two standout partners from this year’s Knack Partner Awards who are redefining what student support looks like—both after hours and for first-time learners.

Night Owl Program: Fordham University

It’s only fitting that the university located in the “city that never sleeps” earned this year’s Night Owl Program award.

Fordham University has cultivated a culture of academic engagement that thrives beyond the traditional 9-to-5. By promoting Knack as both a flexible support tool and a meaningful job opportunity, Fordham has empowered students to take charge of their schedules—and their learning. Many Fordham tutors are balancing internships, coursework, and campus life, but they’re still showing up in the evenings to support their peers.

Through strategic program promotion and a strong emphasis on autonomy, Fordham has made it easy for students to meet when it makes the most sense for them, whether that’s online or in-person at approved campus locations. Their commitment to flexibility has paid off: a remarkable share of sessions happen after 5 pm, demonstrating just how powerful on-demand, peer-led support can be.

The Reach Award: Hillsborough Community College Nursing

The Reach Award honors a program that doesn’t just expand access—it changes student behavior.

Hillsborough Community College’s Nursing program has done just that. With a deep understanding of student needs and a relentless commitment to support, HCC Nursing has successfully reached students who had never engaged with tutoring before. The result? A remarkable percentage of Knack users at HCC Nursing are first-time tutoring participants.

Behind this achievement is a thoughtful, student-first strategy led by their Knack Program Administrator (KPA), Elsie Valentin Medina. From consistent outreach to creating a welcoming culture around asking for help, the program exemplifies what it means to meet students where they are. It’s a powerful reminder that peer support isn’t just about availability—it’s about belonging.

Why It Matters

Both Fordham and HCC Nursing showcase what’s possible when institutions embrace student-centered support strategies. Whether it’s extending hours or expanding reach, they’re proving that flexibility and intentionality are key to engaging today’s learners.

We’re honored to partner with institutions that are reshaping the future of academic support—ensuring that no student is left behind, no matter the hour or their prior experience with tutoring.

Stay tuned as we continue to spotlight the inspiring winners from this year’s Partner Awards.
