How Temple University Supports Business Students Through Peer Tutoring

Business school can be challenging, and not every student comes in with the same level of preparation. That’s why Temple University’s Fox School of Business has made it a priority to ensure all students have access to the support they need to succeed. A key part of that effort has been its partnership with Knack, a peer tutoring platform that connects students with fellow classmates who have already mastered the material.

Since launching the partnership, Temple has seen strong engagement from students looking for academic support:

  • 2,939 completed sessions

  • 323 tutors onboarded

  • 645 students completed a session

  • 76 courses covered

  • 4.93/5 average tutor rating

  • 48% of students said they had not used any tutoring services prior to Knack

  • 56% of students identify as a woman

For many students, peer tutoring isn’t just about improving their grades—it’s about building confidence in their abilities. Nearly half of the students using Knack at Temple had never sought tutoring before, and the program is helping them realize they’re more capable than they thought.

What Students Are Saying

Temple students consistently share positive feedback about their experiences with Knack tutors:

“My tutor was the sweetest. She didn't rush you as the individual learning the material and tried her best to help you understand. I truly appreciate her help and look forward to possibly interacting with her again.”

“She is an excellent tutor who has patience and compassion. She was able to easily and effectively explain concepts I had been struggling with in 10min! I look forward to working with her more!”

“He was great, we worked through my assignments together and he explained a lot of concepts that I didn't fully understand. He made me realize I knew more than I thought and explained stuff quickly but thoroughly."

A Broader Approach to Student Support

Temple’s investment in student success goes beyond tutoring. The Fox School of Business also offers pre-enrollment programs to help incoming students build academic skills before classes even begin. On-campus resources like first-year seminars and additional tutoring options provide students with multiple ways to get the help they need.

The partnership with Knack is a key part of this strategy, making tutoring more accessible and flexible. Students can connect with a peer tutor who has been in their shoes—someone who understands the coursework and can break it down in a way that makes sense. That kind of support doesn’t just help students pass their classes—it helps them gain confidence in their ability to tackle tough subjects.

Building a Stronger Community

Getting help when you need it should be easy, not intimidating. By encouraging students to learn from each other, Temple is creating a culture where asking for help is seen as a strength. Through peer tutoring and other support programs, the university is making sure that no student falls behind simply because they didn’t know where to turn.

Temple’s work with Knack is proving that when students have access to the right support, they don’t just get through their courses—they thrive.
