Ten years ago, Knack was founded with a bold vision: to make academic support equitable and accessible for all students. What started as an idea among classmates at the University of Florida—students who knew firsthand how transformative peer support can be—has grown into a national effort to reimagine academic support through high-impact, peer-powered learning.
At its core, Knack exists to eliminate barriers. Too often, academic help is limited by cost, availability, or stigma. We set out to change that—not by building something exclusive, but by unlocking the potential already present within every campus community: students helping students.
Since those early days, we’ve grown beyond what we could have imagined, but we’ve stayed true to our mission. We've facilitated nearly $5 million in free tutoring, helping to ensure that cost is never a barrier to getting the support you need. To date, more than 50,000 learners have received support through Knack—each one finding help in a moment that mattered, from someone who had once stood in their shoes.
This isn’t just about numbers—it’s about moments. Like the moment when a student logs into a tutoring session and realizes they’re not alone in struggling through a tough class. Or when a peer tutor wraps up a session and sees the confidence spark in someone’s eyes. These moments have added up to more than 264,000 completed sessions and over 446,000 student contact hours—each one a testament to the power of peer learning.
We’re especially proud of the quality of those interactions. With an average rating of 4.94 out of 5, and 98.8% of students reporting positive experiences, our tutors aren’t just supporting their peers—they’re excelling at it. Nearly 10,000 peer tutors have led sessions, each one contributing not just to someone else’s academic success, but to their own growth as leaders, communicators, and professionals.
Our tutors have covered an incredible 8,297 unique courses, spanning every discipline and difficulty level. This breadth ensures that support is available where it’s truly needed—not just in general education classes, but in the toughest, most course-specific moments students face.
What’s made all of this possible isn’t just the technology—it’s the belief that peer interactions are educationally purposeful, that they deserve investment, and that when we create meaningful opportunities for students to support one another, everyone wins.
